To Infinity & Beyond!!!

Wow! Congratulations!! You’ve reached the 20th thing!
Be sure to give yourself a pat on the back for completing the program.
For your last and final exercise for this program please reflect on your learning journey and post a few thoughts.
Here are some questions to prompt you if you’re drawing a blank …
- What were your favorite discoveries or exercises on this learning journey?
- How has this program assisted or affected your lifelong learning goals?
- Were there any take-aways or unexpected outcomes from this program that surprised you?
- What could we do differently to improve upon this program’s format or concept?
And last but not least…
- If we offered another discovery program like this in the future, would you again chose to participate?
Finally, here’s a note from Jonalyn:
Thank you to all of you who dove into the world of Web 2.0. We now have a fleet of bloggers and instant messengers on staff ready to help us move forward with new technologies and services.
It is an exciting time for Sno-Isle Libraries and a big thank you for your enthusiasm.

If I recall correctly, this was mandatory, but if another opportunity like this were offered, I think I would opt in. The topic was interesting to me and relevant, the time required was reasonable, and I liked the flexibility allowed for completing the training.
As far as suggestions, it might have been nice to encourage a little more discussion among the participants. I enjoyed writing my blog, but I think that we might have benefited from hearing other people’s ideas and experiences rather than mostly keeping our thoughts to ourselves.
It helps that all of the blogs are linked on the main site, but it’s hard to click through that whole long list instead of being able to read everything on a topic in one place. On the flip side, as someone who’s taken online courses, the most grating thing ever is required discussion board participation. Maybe there could be a small weekly incentive (now I sound like a gamer!) to post to the main blog as well as one’s own.
Thanks to the 20 for 2.0 team for all of your work and thoughtful preparation in this training.
I agree a bit more discussion amonst us all would have been nice. I did have a couple of co-workers who made some comments on my blog. Which was nice because otherwise I felt like I was writing into a void. I found I did not want to write anything at a site that I did not know the person. Some of the names people choose were good but left me clueless. And unlike a blog out there in the world where I do not know people blogging with co-workers for an assigned task is a different thing.
D
One of the cool things was learning more about Blogger, which came in handy today when I whipped up a sample blog for the Friends of the Mount Vernon Library to show them how easy it was.
This was a great opportunity to explore the web’s resources. I especially liked the music download and Google earth exercises–have already put what I learned to good use! Thanks for creating the project.
First, I really enjoyed the journey overall, THANK YOU! to the 20 for 2.0 team.
What would I change?
1) Longer time to complete the assignments, so that a person with zero experience can find their way.
2) A way to interact more with others. I read a few of the blogs but there was too little time to really interact and keep up with more than a couple.
3) Some folks expressed that there was not enough time using the one hour per week/per task timetable to do the task. This was true with the podcasting, youtube, and video online tasks specifically.
That said, I would do it again in a heartbeat.
Working through these exercises while also participating in the ILS demos and symposium has been very eye-opening for me. Our customers have higher expectations and more options than ever in accessing information. Incorporating the best of these resources with a new ILS will be a driving factor in meeting our customers rising expectations of what the Sno-Isle website/catalog should be.
Of the new things I learned thru this exercise, I will use the streaming music, instant messaging with my boss, and maps.
I especially liked being able to follow through at my own pace which depended a lot on what other deadlines I had. Google Earth was a great experience and i have used it twice with customers at the Information Desk. I am in the process of converting Oak’s Favorite bookmarks onto Siloak’s Delicious. It actually takes longer to bookmark in Delicious than in Favorites because the Bundle Tags take an extra step or two to create. However there is no limit to the number of Tags (keywords) that can be created for each bookmark.
Engaging internet site:) Will come back again.
